Next Saturday, September 4th, Brother Edvaldo Carneiro, ss.cc., will be ordained a deacon. The ceremony will be presided over by Dom Luiz Carlos Dias, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, at 4 PM, at the Santo Emídio Parish, located in Vila Prudente, São Paulo-SP.
The Holy Mass will have a controlled attendance of the faithful, but can also be followed on the parish's social media channels. @igrejasantoemidio on Facebook, or through the channel Parish of Saint Emidius. In keeping with the brothers of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, the celebration will also be broadcast simultaneously by Padre Eustáquio Channel.
The diaconate in the Catholic Church can be of two natures: transitional or permanent. In the case of Brother Edvaldo, this period is transitional, that is, a stage in preparation for priestly ordination, which is why this moment is so important in his life and in the life of the Church.
Brother Edvaldo Carneiro, ss.cc., was born in Suzano on September 15, 1987. Son of Antônio Alves Carneiro (deceased) and Laura da Silva Carneiro. He grew up in the city of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, SP. In 2013 he entered the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He completed his novitiate in 2016 in Chaclacayo (Peru) and professed his first vows on January 29, 2017, at the Santo Emídio Parish, Vila Prudente.
He began his theological studies at PUC – Chile and in 2018 went to the juniorate in Belo Horizonte, MG, where he completed his Theology degree at the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology in 2020. He made his Perpetual Profession on January 17, 2021, at the Sanctuary of Health and Peace in Belo Horizonte. In February, he was appointed to the Santo Emídio Community in Vila Prudente.
