Father Eustáquio lived his love for the Church and his neighbor to the fullest. Throughout his life, he strove to follow the commandments of Christ and the Church through the congregation to which he belonged, the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts.
The Blessed One's love for the Church was repeatedly expressed in writings that speak of the importance of Catholicism in people's lives. Such as the following text, published in the 1946/1947 Bulletin of the Sacred Hearts Parish in Belo Horizonte. Read the full text:
The Holy Mother Church
Seek to attain, in the midst of your constant struggles and toils in this vale of tears, a daily moment of true spiritual pause, of true Christian recollection, to evaluate and weigh, among all the earthly institutions that compose Christian civilization, and, without effort, you will see one rise and impose itself, whose legitimate and constant labor, despite all the denials and vain battles waged against it, has never lost its exact character, has never deviated from its legitimate course, has never ceased to sail towards the true port of salvation: it is the Holy Mother Church, founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ, upon Peter, the cornerstone, Catholic and Apostolic, while Roman.
And what has she done throughout the ages and generations? Two things she has done, unwaveringly, firmly, while her contemporaries, merely human institutions, have varied weakly in their purposes, in their objectives. Yes, two essential things have constituted the action of the Church, in time, among men of all races in all corners of the earth, without ever incurring the lamentable distinctions of peoples, without ever creating privileges among them, without ever teaching them different teachings: she has affirmed and begged! Affirmed Christ, for that which she alone exists for, solely authorized by Him in the person of Saint Peter, and the Holy Fathers, his continuers and successors, and begged for love, love for the Divine Savior of men.
Indeed, however improper and sterile disputes and misunderstandings may be, entertained around it, vainly striving to disfigure and tarnish its incomparable, and therefore singular and categorical role, never broken or compromised, because it is founded on the strength of its divine institution, it impassively and fearlessly, like a ship of a single course and a single pilot, even when lashed by storms and threatened by grave and frequent dangers, preserves intact the road chart, the authentic Holy Gospels, and obeys the only and wise navigator, since Saint Peter, the Holy Father.
And to what does she affirm? The only one of whom it can be affirmed, whose actions in the world were also affirmations par excellence: Jesus Christ, who was born for us, Jesus Christ, who lived for us, Jesus Christ, who died for us! Jesus, our only master, our creator, our Savior, our Protector, our Benefactor, whom you all know, but whom you will always know better! And to Him, who by all these titles has undeniable, indisputable rights, demanding by His very nature and by His Possessor, she begs, knocking at every door and at every heart of good will, love, love, and love!
Ah, my brothers, to fulfill her mandate, legitimate and irrevocable, and no one else possesses it as She does, irrevocable and legitimate. How often are they not muddied and defamed by the infamy and mire of the world, which gives, when it gives, its meager gold and its meager silver, to accuse her of being covetous, without first seeing that this is the voice of the donor's own greed, blind to the fact that the Church has, to a certain extent, the contingencies of human societies, because she must fulfill her saving mission in the midst of them. That at times, for not satisfying ambitious politicians with the prestige and authority of her name, she is accused by them of being reactionary, without first seeing that this voice is that of wounded pride and of vanity and ambition thwarted, even though, at times, she accepts the honest and loyal hand that is extended to her, as long as it does not infringe upon the rights of her founder and those redeemed with His Precious Blood! And countless times it is denied and fought against by faith, by ignorance, by complacency, in so many forms that are shrouded in embarrassment and active or passive restriction, so that, in its place, they want to implant the broken and ridiculous Roman motto of "bread and circuses," today laid as the foundation for the so-called communist state... But enough!
Why all this? This is the hatred of darkness rushing, in vain, against the light of the religion of goodness and peace, since the Holy Church no longer admits and effectively and firmly condemns any "philosophies" that attempt, as barbaric and cruel postulates, to make against the teachings of Christ the fallen and discredited apology for force and matter.
Ah! My brothers, while Christ proclaims the equality of men before God, since all are equal in their dependence on salvation and death, all are brothers and all have the same Father in Christ, and therefore should love and help one another loyally and mutually, what do the preachers of the bloody communist disorder say and do? Through bad faith and also ignorance, you understand, they preach, yet they neither want nor practice equality to the letter, because it is impossible, firstly, in itself, but they neither want nor practice it because, in truth, what they want is to dominate and oppress, whatever the cost. Otherwise, look at the examples where this betrayal and falsehood has taken root, at the price of the blood of the worker and the peasant.
Now, we have done well what matters to us Catholics, to defend and truly love the Holy Mother, the Church, and Christian civil institutions, and, before our rights, let us emphasize our corresponding duties, equally respectable as can easily be seen in any individual human activity; this is the path to which the Church lovingly beckons, pointing it out to all her children, without distinction, for there is no other for the human journey on this earth.
And so, far from suppressing or weakening the rights of the State, the Holy Church recognizes and guarantees them with its holy teachings, and, when necessary, also knows how to oppose, like no other, the condemned maxims and protest against any and all revival of the pernicious spirit of Julian the Apostate, who wished to restore the false cult of the divinity of the Empire.,
In short, the Church that we recognize, love, and obey proclaims and seeks to realize on earth, under the authority of one head, the Pope, the legitimate Vicar of Jesus Christ, and no one else – the kingdom of God through faith, charity, and justice.
My brothers! Defend with your love and your solicitude for its holy decrees, the name and inviolability of Holy Mother Church, the divine institution of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for we, as children, cannot deny or diminish the reward for your devoted fidelity to such a holy and revered institution.
