The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, in the city of Santa Juliana-MG, received a relic of Blessed Father Eustace. The church was restored and the work delivered to the community last week. On the altar, a piece of Father Eustace's bone was placed and, subsequently, the Eucharistic Table was consecrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The custom of placing a relic on the altar dates back to ancient times, when something related to a martyr was placed on the Eucharistic table. This act recalls the sacrifice requested by Jesus (of bread and wine), which was formerly celebrated in the catacombs of the martyrs. Therefore, by tradition, the altars of Catholic churches usually have a relic of a saint or blessed person recognized by the Apostolic See.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A relic is the remains of the body of a blessed or saint, objects that belonged to them, or material that touched their remains. A small fragment of bone was sent to the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
