Father Eust\u00e1quio arrived in the capital of Minas Gerais on April 7, 1942, where he was welcomed by Archbishop Dom Ant\u00f4nio dos Santos Cabral (the first archbishop of Belo Horizonte). He came from Ibi\u00e1, in the Tri\u00e2ngulo Mineiro region, and arrived in BH with great expectations for his missionary work. At the time, the Blessed Father lived in one of the few houses that existed in the neighborhood, making it a parish house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The residence was located next to the land where the Sanctuary was built. Today, the Padre Eust\u00e1quio Marist School operates on that site. It was in this house that Father Eust\u00e1quio planned and conceived what the new parish church of the region should be like, which would be called the Parish of the Sacred Hearts and which would later become the Sanctuary of Health and Peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the Blessed One's brief stay in Belo Horizonte, the Dutch priest left a great legacy. The street where his house was located, which was called Avenida Contagem, became Rua Padre Eust\u00e1quio. The neighborhood called Celeste Imp\u00e9rio became Bairro Padre Eust\u00e1quio, and today his name is known not only by the people of Belo Horizonte but by people from Minas Gerais, Brazil, and people all over the world, who greet him as the Missionary of Health and Peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
