At the beginning of 1941, while still in Po\u00e1, S\u00e3o Paulo, Father Eust\u00e1quio attracted the attention of thousands of people seeking his blessing. For this reason, civil and religious authorities ordered his exile. Initially, he went to a farm in Rio Claro, in the interior of S\u00e3o Paulo, but after being discovered some time later, he had to be transferred several more times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Father Eust\u00e1quio was forbidden from working in all major centers of Brazil. His refuge became the convent of the priests in Patroc\u00ednio, in the Alto Parana\u00edba region of Minas Gerais, at the then Dom Lustosa Gymnasium, starting on October 13, 1941. The chapel of Santa Luzia was his field of work, but with serious restrictions. He could only attend to people and give blessings in the confessional, where he would spend seven to eight hours a day. Without complaint, Father Eust\u00e1quio accepted all the conditions. In Patroc\u00ednio, he experienced renewed vigor. But he remained there for only four months, from October 1941 to February 1942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In December 1941 he wrote about some of his experiences in the city: \u201cI attended the retreat and had the joy of being able to intensely tend to my own soul and especially recommend the intentions that so many people ask of me. Thanks be to God, every day I witness some conversions. People who for years lived far from God and the Church, I see returning to the arms of our Divine Master. How much the Heart of Jesus must overflow with true joy! And I feel no less happy with so many spiritual resurrections. Winning souls, alleviating pain and suffering, that is my great ideal, inspired by God!\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After Patroc\u00ednio, Father Eust\u00e1quio served as temporary parish priest in Ibi\u00e1, in the same region.
