Fraternity and Education – The Church in Brazil launches the 2022 Fraternity Campaign today.

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) launches today, March 2nd, the 2022 Fraternity Campaign, with the theme: “"Fraternity and Education"” and the biblical motto, taken from Proverbs 31:26: “"Speak with wisdom, teach with love."”.

This is the third time that the theme of education will be addressed in the Fraternity Campaign. The theme was already the subject of ecclesial reflection and action in 1982 and 1998. According to the introduction of the base text, it was "the reality of our times that made the theme of education stand out, a time marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and by various conflicts, distances and polarizations".

The CNBB presidency justifies, in the presentation of the CF's basic text, that this is a campaign that, more than addressing another specific aspect of the educational problem, will reflect on the foundations of the act of educating from a Catholic-Christian perspective.

From this perspective, education is understood not only as a school activity, with the transmission of content or technical preparation for the world of work, but as a process that involves a broader "community" that includes all actors (family, Church, State and society).

The 2022 Campaign for Fraternity is driven by the Global Educational Pact, convened by Pope Francis. In the letter convening the Pact, the Holy Father presents the constitutive elements of a humanized education that contributes to the formation of open, integrated, and interconnected people, who are also capable of caring for our common home, since "education will be ineffective and its efforts sterile if it does not also concern itself with spreading a new model relating to the human being, to life, to society, and to the relationship with nature," as explained in the Encyclical Laudato Si', 2016, no. 215.
