Father Osvaldo, sscc, of the Cana Family, dies at age 92.

Father Osvaldo Gonçalves, sscc, was from Patrocínio-MG and was living at the headquarters of the Sacred Hearts Province in Brazil, in Belo Horizonte. He passed away early this Monday morning, May 27th, at Madre Tereza Hospital.

The priest, a member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, had been hospitalized for a week due to health complications until today, at 6:00 AM, when Father Osvaldo passed away from natural causes. The wake will begin at 7:30 AM this Tuesday, the 28th, at the Archdiocesan Sanctuary of Health and Peace in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The funeral mass is scheduled for 12:00 PM and the burial for 2:30 PM at the Colina Cemetery.

Osvaldo Gonçalves was born on November 14, 1931, in the community of Macaúbas, in Patrocínio, in the Alto Paranaíba region of Minas Gerais. The son of Antônio Gonçalves dos Reis and Elvira Marcolina de Souza, he attended Dom Lustosa College, which led him to become acquainted with the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, which he joined in 1951. He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1957, in Patrocínio-MG and, a little over a year later, began his pastoral work in Vila Prudente, São Paulo.

He was a professor at the Seminary in Ferraz de Vasconcelos-SP and, in the 1960s, upon completing his journalism degree, he was an editor for the magazines Reino and A Turma. In 1970, he was invited to be the Secretary of the Entronization Work and director of the Family Promotion Publishing House. The following year, in Belo Horizonte-MG, he led the Youth Ministry, where he began to get involved with the families of young people who needed help to escape the world of drugs.

In 1979, he began working with drug addicts through the Family Ministry and the Cana Family. On May 31, 1987, he officially inaugurated his greatest legacy, the Cana Family Recovery Farm in Ribeirão das Neves, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, a mission he led until he was 89 years old.

In 2021, she moved to the headquarters of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in Brazil, in Belo Horizonte-MG, where, even with her fragile health, she continued to dedicate herself to the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Family of Cana.
