Padre Eustáquio Church receives requests left at Alberto Cavalcanti Hospital.

The team working on the Canonization cause received this week a box containing requests, expressions of gratitude, and prayers left by devotees in the room where Father Eustáquio spent the last moments of his life.

The papers are collected by employees of the Cavalcanti Open Hospital, in the Northwest region of Belo Horizonte, and frequently left at the Sanctuary of Health and Peace (Father Eustáquio Church). There are hundreds of requests for prayers, healings, and other graces, placed in a box by people who visit the hospital room, which still retains the furniture and pictures from that day, August 30, 1943.

The Alberto Cavalcanti Hospital – HAC is located in the Padre Eustáquio neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, and was inaugurated in 1936 under the name Sanatório Minas Gerais. Its mission at the time was to treat tuberculosis patients.

The Institute of Retirement and Pensions for Bank Employees – IRPB acquired the sanatorium in 1947, which was renamed Sanaminas. This name remained known throughout the country until 1956. For the next four years, the unit was closed for renovations, reopening in 1960 as the Alberto Cavalcanti Sanatorium, the most modern center for tuberculosis treatment in the country.

Before becoming part of the Minas Gerais State Hospital Foundation – Fhemig, the hospital belonged to the National Institute of Social Security – INPS and then to the National Institute of Medical Assistance of Social Security – Inamps.

Today, Alberto Cavalcanti is a medium-sized general hospital, with services in mastology, general surgery, and specialties such as internal medicine, oncology, emergency care, and outpatient services.
