On August 30th, the feast of Blessed Father Eustace was celebrated in Belo Horizonte. The Dutch religious figure, who came to Brazil and became the... In the capital of Minas Gerais, the celebrations took place with a procession (by car) on Saturday and, on Sunday, online programs, ending with the celebration of Holy Mass at 6 pm, presided over by the archbishop of the capital of Minas Gerais and president of the CNBB, D. Walmor Oliveira de Azevedo.
On Saturday, a processional car carried the image of the Blessed One through the streets of the Padre Eustáquio neighborhood. The procession passed almost every street in the neighborhood. People were advised to remain in their homes, demonstrating their faith and devotion through their windows or with decorations on their facades. Thousands of people were moved as they watched the procession pass by.
On Sunday, the church remained open all day for parishioners to visit, with all sanitary measures required by the authorities in place. However, many people preferred to follow the celebrations and tributes online. Through the Padre Eustáquio Channel on YouTube, the religious members of the Congregation held various moments of prayer and reflection on the life and history of Father Eustáquio.
In the parking lot, devotees were able to receive a blessing from the priests of the Padre Eustáquio Church without leaving their cars. Nearly 600 vehicles passed through the parking lot.
The celebrations ended with the celebration of Holy Mass presided over by Dom Walmor, with the presence of brothers from the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts and religious present in the parish territory.
The day's celebrations were followed online by nearly 20,000 people across the three social media networks dedicated to Blessed Father Eustace.
