Brother Edvaldo Carneiro, ss.cc, was ordained a Deacon of the Church last Saturday, September 4th, at the Parish of Saint Emídio, in Vila Prudente, São Paulo-SP. The ceremony was presided over by the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, Dom Luiz Carlos Dias.
In addition to priests and brothers of the Congregation, the celebration was attended in person by relatives and friends of the new Deacon. Besides Edvaldo's fellow countrymen, many people from distant communities were also present at the church in São Paulo.
In his homily, Bishop Luiz spoke directly to the then-candidate for deacon, giving him advice and guidance for the diaconal life he will live from now on. Immediately afterwards, the bishop proceeded with the rites proper to ordination, laying hands on him. The vestments (deacon's stole and dalmatic) were placed on him by Brother Antoniel Santos and Father Paulo Dekker, followed by Mrs. Laura Carneiro, the new deacon's mother, congratulating him and giving her son a warm hug.

Brother Edvaldo Carneiro, ss.cc., was born in Suzano on September 15, 1987. Son of Antônio Alves Carneiro (deceased) and Laura da Silva Carneiro. He grew up in the city of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, SP. In 2013 he entered the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He completed his novitiate in 2016 in Chaclacayo (Peru) and professed his first vows on January 29, 2017, at the Santo Emídio Parish, Vila Prudente.
He began his theological studies at PUC – Chile and in 2018 went to the juniorate in Belo Horizonte, MG, where he completed his Theology degree at the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology in 2020. He made his Perpetual Profession on January 17, 2021, at the Sanctuary of Health and Peace in Belo Horizonte. In February, he was appointed to the Santo Emídio Community in Vila Prudente.
