For Father Eustáquio, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament was one of the greatest experiences that the Catholic faith can offer. He affirmed that seeing Jesus present in the tabernacle at all times, out of love for us, was a constant call to not let our faith grow cold.
In one of Father Eustáquio's texts about this devotion, he stated: “"There is never a more solid devotion than that of visiting the Blessed Sacrament. It is said of a holy man who was asked why he spent so many hours at the foot of the altar and he replied: 'It is there that my spirit opens up to new breath and strength.'"”. For Father Eustáquio, visiting Jesus should be imposed on Christians as a law.
He himself nurtured this passionate devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. This devoted love was perceived by all the people who lived with that priest. This can be seen in a testimony left by the Reverend Petrus Hoeks, chaplain of the Monastery of the Most Precious Blood, where little Eustace was an altar boy:
“I knew Father Eustáquio between 1912 and 1918. He was young, of impeccable conduct, and possessed a very special piety. Proof of this is the visits he liked to make to the Chapel of the Most Precious Blood, in order to pray before the exposed Blessed Sacrament. On one of these occasions, I was hidden behind him and observed his intense recollection and fervor in prayer for quite some time. I was very moved, and I have never forgotten the devotion, recollection, and profound faith with which Father Eustáquio behaved. It seemed to me that he saw, with his eyes, Our Lord in living person.”
