Peter and Paul are the living foundations of the Church, planted through their toils, their ceaseless preaching, and finally, made fruitful by their martyrdom.
In his letter to Timothy, Saint Paul shows himself ready and confident to dedicate himself completely to the cause of the Kingdom:“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”.
In the Gospel passage according to Saint Matthew, Jesus entrusts Peter with the foundations of his Church.“Therefore I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”.
