Brothers of the Sacred Hearts are ordained in Paraguay.

The evening of Tuesday, May 10th, was marked by three ordinations held in Paraguay. At the city's sports complex, Deacon Gustavo van Humbeeck, ss.cc., was ordained a priest, and in the same ceremony, brothers Gregório Samuel Silvero, ss.cc., and Vitor Henrique Borges, ss.cc., received diaconal ordination. The Holy Mass was presided over by the Archbishop of Asunción – Paraguay, Dom Adalberto Martinez Flores, and concelebrated by many priests, among them the Provincial of Brazil – Paraguay region, Fr. Osvânio Humberto Mariano, ss.cc. The ceremony was held at the Fernando de la Mora Sports Center and was attended by family and friends of the ordained brothers.

Among his remarks, Archbishop Adalberto spoke about recognizing the remarkable inspiration that Damien continues to give to the entire Church to dedicate itself entirely to the service of the poorest.

Father Gustavo van Humbeeck, ss.cc.

Gustavo Rafael Arnaldo Van Humbeeck Benegas was born on March 14, 1989, in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, and joined the Congregation in 2012. That same year, he began his philosophical studies at the Jesuit Institute of Humanistic and Philosophical Studies in Asunción, entering the novitiate three years later in Chile. He professed his temporary vows on January 15, 2016, at the Santa Catarina de Sena Parish, where he grew in his Christian life, and made his perpetual profession at the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Parish in the city of Presidente Franco in 2020. In 2020, Father Gustavo underwent a formative experience at the Sanctuary of Health and Peace, the Church of Blessed Father Eustáquio in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Deacon Samuel Silvero, ss.cc.

Gregorio Samuel Silvero, son of Juan Andrés Silvero Dávalos and Ramona Beatriz Gómez, belongs to the parish community of Our Lady of Fatima in the city of Presidente Franco, Paraguay, where his Christian vocation developed. He entered the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in 2014, completing his philosophical studies in Asunción (capital of Paraguay). He entered the novitiate in Peru in 2017 and made his religious profession the following year. His pastoral and theological formation was developed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and he made his perpetual vows in 2021. In that same year, he was assigned to work with the parish community of Saint Catherine of Siena.

Deacon Vitor Borges, ss.cc.

Vitor Henrique Borges was born in Patrocínio, Minas Gerais (Brazil), on November 23, 1992. Son of João Silvestres Borges and Aura Alves Araújo Borges. He entered the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in 2014. He completed his novitiate in Peru in 2017 and professed his temporary vows in 2018. Since February 2021, after completing his academic studies in Belo Horizonte, he has lived in the Sacred Hearts community of Patrocínio-MG, where he professed his perpetual vows in December 2021. Throughout this year he has been carrying out his pastoral experience at the Salvador del Mundo Parish, in the city of Asunción (Paraguay), where he currently resides with the brothers of the postulancy community.
