An excerpt from a letter written by Father Venâncio Hulselmans, ss.cc, reveals some of the missionary work carried out by Father Eustáquio in Poá-SP. In the letter, the priest, also Dutch, recounts how his compatriot attended to the faithful who sought prayer and a word of hope.
Read the following excerpt:
“This water, it was said, has miraculous power, and whoever drinks it is cured of any disease. The people of Poá tell stories of paralytics who begin to walk, of blind people who regain their sight, of mute people who begin to speak… The influx of patients is enormous. Every day, hundreds of people come to get water in bottles or jugs, then they line up to be received by the holy man who blesses their water, listens to their miseries, learns of their illnesses, and gives them good advice. They have surrendered themselves to his prayers. He lays his hands on everyone, telling them to pray an Our Father and a Hail Mary while they drink the water, and sends them away with a small relic of Saint Joseph.”
