The Spirituality of Father Eustáquio Series: The Spirit of Prayer and Penance

To conclude our week on the Spirituality of the Blessed, we will highlight the Spirit of Prayer and Penance lived by the Blessed. May all of Father Eustace's Spirituality serve as an example and a path to follow.

As a true Blessed, Father Eustace van Lieshout knew perfectly well that the glory of God and the salvation of souls, to which his entire apostolic life was consecrated, could only be obtained through union with Christ on the cross. Therefore, the Blessed was a man of prayer and penance.

In one of his texts, Father Eustáquio writes: “We must not think that penance can only be done physically; we can also do it spiritually. Isn't keeping silent when we want to speak penance? Isn't speaking well when we wanted to speak ill penance? Isn't banishing a thought that pleases our heart but displeases God penance? Isn't forgiving insults, offenses, scorn, and offenses penance? Isn't abstaining from something that doesn't harm us penance?”

Father Eustáquio lived a life of penance and consecration to God, serving as an example for all his devotees.
