During a visit to Brazil, Father Andrzej Lukawski, Postulator and Procurator General of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, was touched by the devotion to Blessed Father Eustace. He was impressed by the mobilization of the Blessed's faithful and how the devotion to the Missionary of Health and Peace bore fruit.
During the visit, he also asked for the prayers of all devotees so that a new miracle may be recognized by the Vatican, allowing Father Eustáquio to finally be consecrated a Saint of the Catholic Church.
Read an excerpt from Father Andrzej Lukawski's homily at the Feast of Blessed Father Eustace in 2022:
“This is the second time I have come to Belo Horizonte. The first was for the beatification in 2006. I was very grateful to God for the opportunity to participate in this important and joyful event, which was only achieved thanks to your devotion to Father Eustáquio. Since then, my heart has been repeating the words of the hymn's refrain: “Pray for us, Father Eustáquio, watch over us with love, we trust in your goodness before God, our intercessor.” Indeed, he is our great intercessor before God, in whom we can count on and entrust our prayers.”.
He always intercedes for us, and this is so clear in the testimonies of the faithful. I am happy to see that requests for relics are gradually increasing outside of Brazil as well, because it is a sign that Father Eustáquio is becoming known in other parts of the world. However, we continue to await a miracle necessary for his canonization, to be presented to the Vatican Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.
I personally believe that this day is near, but we must remain in prayer and ask God for the intercession of Blessed Father Eustace in cases of serious illness. We must not be discouraged if God does not hear our prayers immediately; He has His own time and ways of acting. For our part, it is up to us to believe completely in Him and wait patiently, following the example of Blessed Father Eustace with humility and persistence. “Ask and it will be given to you,” these are not my words, but the words of Jesus himself. May these words be sufficient for us.”
