The traditional Nativity scene at the Archdiocesan Sanctuary of Health and Peace, Church of Blessed Father Eustace, was set up at the beginning of Advent and has been a hit with visitors ever since. The display is located in the Molokai area, next to the Community Center. Every year, thousands of people visit the Nativity scene, which has become a landmark for the faithful who frequent the sanctuary and for visitors from all over the country.
The symbolism of the Nativity scene
One of the main Christmas symbols, the Nativity scene, was first assembled by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1223. He wanted to show the peasants what the night of Jesus' birth had been like.
With this, the tradition of the nativity scene spread throughout the world. In Brazil, the first nativity scene dates back to the 17th century, when the religious figure Gaspar de Santo Agostinho set up his in Olinda, Pernambuco. Nowadays, almost all Catholic families set up their nativity scene as Christmas approaches.
