The 1st Missionary Charity Meeting of the Shrines of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte brought together rectors and representatives of the archdiocesan shrines at the São Judas Tadeu Center for Evangelization and Social Works. Representing the Archdiocesan Shrine of Health and Peace, the Church of Father Eustáquio, Marisa Campos, president of the Ladies of Charity, attended the event.
Illuminated by the theme "The Theological Meaning of Charity," the meeting was coordinated by Father Roberto Rubens, rector of the Archdiocesan Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Conception of the Poor. Father André Lage, parish priest and rector of the Archdiocesan Sanctuary of Saint Jude Thaddeus, was responsible for the welcoming.
During the meeting, each Sanctuary was present with a video about its main missionary actions focused on welcoming and tirelessly serving the poorest. Marisa Campos presented the social projects developed by the Sanctuary, such as the Ladies of Charity and the Padre Eustáquio Daycare Centers.
The video, recorded by the National Secretariat for the Cause of Canonization team, showed the collection of food, clothing, and cleaning supplies by the "Ladies," as well as the organization and work of the volunteers at the church. The material also presented the service provided at the daycare centers, serving nearly 400 children.
Father Márcio Paiva, a formator at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Archdiocesan Seminary (Sacej), led a reflection on the Theological Meaning of Charity, highlighting the significance of love and the relationship with God, a single reality with countless dimensions. “Being Christian is not an ethical or dogmatic agenda; it springs from an encounter with God,” Father Márcio emphasized. “The relationship with God weakens if I distance myself from my neighbor. Charity is the response to challenges,” he concluded.
