Words of Father Eustáquio – Visit to the Blessed Sacrament

The Blessed Sacrament is the Body of Jesus in the consecrated host, a reason for adoration for us Catholics. And Father Eustáquio nurtured great devotion and adoration for the Blessed Sacrament. On several occasions, he spoke and wrote about this devotion, leaving behind a large body of work on the subject.

One of the texts found by the team restoring and cataloging the objects of the Blessed One reveals some of this devotion of the Blessed One. Read the following excerpt:

Visit to the Blessed Sacrament

Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament of the altar is so holy and reasonable, and bears fruit in grace of every kind, that it seems impossible to me that anyone who has faith could neglect it. To believe that Jesus is formally present in the tabernacle day and night, out of love for us, waiting for us patiently, calling us by his inspirations, speaking to us of love, enriching us with gifts, with an inexhaustible abundance—how can one believe in all these wonders of goodness and have nothing but a cold indifference towards the one who works them?

There is never a more solid devotion than that of visiting the Blessed Sacrament. It is said of a holy man who, when asked why he spent so many hours at the foot of the altar, replied: "It is there that my spirit opens itself to new breath and strength." Father Coudrin – founder of our congregation – even while imprisoned, adored the small particles that remained on the corporal. Saint Vincent Ferrer, after long labors, spent nights in the church or sometimes at the door. Saint Thomas Aquinas would put his head in the tabernacle to obtain the light of God. Let us make a law to visit Jesus..
