Researchers find text by Father Eustáquio about Saint Sebastian

Among the work of restoring and cataloging the objects, documents, and belongings of Father Eustáquio, researchers Leandro, Cybele, and Marcelino have found texts written by the Blessed in notebooks where he himself recorded his homilies and sermons. Recently, they found in notebook number 25, a passage where the priest speaks about the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian.

In the text, Father Eustáquio also praises the courage of the soldier who did not deny Christ and encourages us to ask for the intercession of this holy man of God. Today, on the day dedicated to Saint Sebastian, we decided to publish this excerpt from the booklet, which you can read in full below:

“"Saint Sebastian, being a soldier in the army, in the midst of a company, never denied Christianity. Doesn't Saint Sebastian deserve the honor of all Christianity? Saint Sebastian was not afraid to declare himself a Christian before the emperor, and neither flattery nor threats sought to abandon the law of Christ.".

Saint Sebastian suffered the most cruel martyrdom, but nothing could shake the faith of this young Christian. Saint Sebastian, left for dead, revived after some time and recovered from his wounds. Far from fleeing the tyrant's gaze, he went to the same tyrant to declare himself a Christian and was martyred again until he died.

We all venerate Saint Sebastian as our patron saint, as our intercessor before Almighty God, and we pray with great fervor: “Holy Sebastian, Glorious Martyr, deliver us from the plague, from all contagious evil. Holy Sebastian, defender of the Church, may your patronage always protect us!”
