It was in September 1942 that the then mayor of Belo Horizonte, Juscelino Kubitschek, donated the land for the construction of the new main church, the Church of the Sacred Hearts, today the Sanctuary of Health and Peace. The donation was made to the Congregation through Father Eustáquio.
JK knew the Dutch priest because of his great fame for blessings and the graces obtained through his intercession. Kubitschek said he was blessed by the Blessed Father's prayer on two occasions. The first was when his wife, Sarah Kubitschek, was only able to conceive after a blessing from Father Eustáquio. The second was when he suffered from a serious throat infection and recovered after the Blessed Father's prayer.
These events made Juscelino Kubitschek a great admirer and friend of Father Eustáquio, leading him to donate the land for the construction of what would become the future Sacred Hearts Church in Belo Horizonte.
After the death of Father Eustáquio, JK contributed to the beginning of the canonization process for the Dutch priest, writing a letter to be attached to the documents taken to Rome.
Juscelino Kubitschek was mayor of Belo Horizonte from 1940 to 1946.
