The tradition of praying to Father Eustace on Mondays.

The tradition of praying to Father Eustace on Mondays.

After Father Eustáquio's death in 1943, his tomb in the Bonfim Cemetery in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, continued to be visited by the faithful. And from these visits, a tradition was born.

Every Monday, devotees gathered at the site to pray for him and to receive personal blessings. The practice of visiting the tomb on Mondays stemmed from a Catholic tradition that dedicates that day of the week to prayers for the souls in purgatory.

The number of visitors was so high that Father Eustáquio's tomb became one of the most sought-after sites on All Souls' Day and August 30th.

In 1949, the priest's remains were removed from the cemetery and taken to the Health and Peace Sanctuary, where they are currently located.

Even today, people use Mondays to pray for the Blessed One and visit the tomb of the Dutch priest.

In our WhatsApp group for devotees, every Monday is the day to pray the Perpetual Novena to Blessed Father Eustace. If you would like to join our group, Click here.
