Last Sunday, November 29th, 34 young people from the Sacred Hearts Parish in Belo Horizonte received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The celebration was presided over by Dom Joaquim Mol, auxiliary bishop of the capital of Minas Gerais.
Following all hygiene and social distancing rules, the celebration, which began at 8 am, proceeded normally and was attended by the parents of those being confirmed, as well as each child's godparent. The Holy Mass was broadcast on the Padre Eustáquio Channel on YouTube (Watch here).
Next Saturday, December 5th, another group of confirmands will also receive the Sacrament. May God, through the intercession of Father Eustáquio, grant them perseverance and many graces to always follow this path!
The Sacrament of Confirmation
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that Confirmation, along with Baptism and the Eucharist, belongs to the three sacraments of Christian initiation in the Catholic Church. In this sacrament, just as it occurred at Pentecost, the Paraclete descended upon the community of disciples, then gathered together. Just as with them, the Holy Spirit also descends upon each baptized person who asks the Church for this gift [of the Holy Spirit]. In this way, the sacrament encourages the faithful and strengthens them for a life of witnessing to Christ's love.
Confirmation is the sacrament that completes baptism and through which we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Those who freely choose a life as children of God and ask for the Paraclete, under the sign of the laying on of hands and the anointing with chrism oil, obtain the strength to witness to the love and power of the Lord in word and deed. This person is now a legitimate and responsible member of the Catholic Church.
