Devotees of the Sacred Hearts experienced moments of great faith and emotion this weekend. Priests, religious figures, and volunteers led celebrations that, despite the pandemic, involved the entire community.
On Friday the 19th, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the priests celebrated Holy Mass and then performed the rites for the Enthronement of images, shields, and prints. The faithful were able to follow along online and participate in the prayers, even from a distance.
The Sacred Heart of Mary was celebrated on Saturday the 20th with Holy Mass and prayers for Enthronement, also broadcast on the Padre Eustáquio YouTube channel.
On Sunday, the day the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts celebrates its patron saints, in addition to the Eucharist, the religious community also organized a procession through the streets of the Padre Eustáquio neighborhood. From their homes, devotees applauded, prayed, and paid homage to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, many with tears in their eyes.
THE IMAGES
This Sunday's procession traveled through almost all the streets of the Padre Eustáquio neighborhood. On the float, adorned with many flowers by a team of parishioners, were the two images recently returned from extensive restoration. They were presented to the community after spending fifteen months being restored by a specialized company in São Paulo.
On March 19th of last year, during the celebration of Holy Mass at noon, an unidentified man entered the church with an iron bar in his hands and struck the doors and the two images located at the entrance of the temple several times. The faces and, especially, the hands of the sculptures were severely damaged. The entire restoration was only possible with the help and contribution of the entire community.
