The person responsible in Brazil for the Cause of Canonization of Blessed Father Eustace, Father Marcus Vinícius Maciel, ss.cc, visited the Netherlands last week. He went to the country at the invitation of the Blessed's nephews, to visit places historically important in Father Eustace's life.
Father Vinícius visited the church where the baptismal font in which Father Eustáquio was baptized is located. The original church, where the font was located, was demolished and a new one was built in the same place. This new church, dedicated to Saint Michael, has the same shape as the Health and Peace Sanctuary in Belo Horizonte (in the shape of a cross), and a chapel dedicated to the memory of the Blessed. "It's a very beautiful space where there is a painting and a relic of Father Eustáquio," Father Vinícius pointed out.
In this church, the parish priest, Fr. Geoffrey de Jonge, whose parish is currently named after Father Eustace, said that he has only recently taken over the community and showed interest in the history of the Missionary of Health and Peace. He was invited to participate in the closing of the celebrations of the “100 Years of Priestly Ordination of Father Eustace” in Brazil in August of next year.
The Dutch parish priest received the delegation at the church and expressed his willingness to join the family of Blessed Father Eustace in planning a space to house objects that belonged to the Blessed, as well as photos and documents that are currently with Father Eustace's family.
