Last weekend was filled with prayers and tributes to Blessed Father Eustáquio in the city of Romaria, in the Triângulo Mineiro region. Hundreds of devotees gathered at the Chapel of Peace in the Basilica Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Abbey of Água Suja to celebrate Holy Mass and participate in the procession in honor of the Blessed.
At 10:00 AM, Holy Mass was celebrated by the vice-postulator of the Cause of Canonization of Blessed Father Eustáquio, Father Vinícius Maciel, SS.CC, in the Chapel of Peace, attached to the Sanctuary-Basilica. The ceremony was broadcast on the Padre Eustáquio Channel on YouTube (SEE HERE).
At 7 pm, the Solemn Closing Mass of the festival was held, also presided over by Father Vinícius Maciel, who highlighted the Blessed One's journey through that region, recalling the 100th anniversary of Father Eustáquio's arrival in Água Suja (present-day Romaria-MG).
Immediately after Holy Mass, the devotees went in procession with the image and a relic of the Blessed One through the streets of the city, towards the Basilica. Upon arrival, there was a tribute from the children of Romaria, as well as a blessing of Health and Peace, administered by Father Vinicius. A moment of profound faith and gratitude, where the faithful united to honor the legacy of Father Eustáquio and renew their hope in his intercession.
November 3rd is commemorated in Romaria because it is the birthdate of Father Eustáquio. The Missionary of Health and Peace was born in 1890 in the city of Aarle Rixtel, in the Netherlands. Father Eustáquio arrived in Brazil on May 12, 1925, and soon after settled in Água Suja, his first field of apostolate in the country, where he remained for 10 years.
