Devotees prepare to celebrate the centenary of Father Eustáquio's arrival in Brazil.

This year marks a significant celebration: the 99th anniversary of Father Eustáquio's arrival in Brazil. In May 1925, the priest landed on Brazilian soil alongside Fathers Gil van den Boogaart and Matias van Rooy, bringing with him the mission and values of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts.

Father Eustáquio, along with his companions, was one of the three founders of the first community of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in Brazil, located in Romaria, in the Triângulo Mineiro region. The arrival of these religious men marked the beginning of a journey of faith and dedication that would profoundly impact the communities of the region.

In 1925, the first members of the Sacred Hearts religious order settled in what was then the Diocese of Uberaba (now an Archdiocese). With unwavering commitment, they dedicated themselves to spreading the message of love, hope, and charity, fundamental characteristics of the Congregation.

The legacy of Father Eustáquio and his companions is still evident today. Their presence not only consolidated the Catholic faith in the region, but also fostered a culture of service and solidarity that has endured through the decades. Churches, schools, and social works were established, reflecting the spirit of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts and strengthening local communities.

In August of this year, devotees will begin the jubilee year of the Centenary of his arrival in Brazil. As we commemorate this date, we also celebrate the rich history and spiritual legacy he left us. It is a time to reflect on the values of faith and dedication that continue to inspire generations.
