The tradition of having a month dedicated to Mary arose around the 12th century. It was a time when the protection of Mother Mary was sought for the needs of the Church of her Son. For this reason, Our Lady is known as the Mother of the Church, as she constantly intercedes for the needs of her beloved people. This May, we highlight two important dates linked to Our Lady: May 13th, the day of Our Lady of Fatima, and May 24th, the day of Our Lady Help of Christians.
On the second Sunday of May, we also remember Mother's Day. A special moment to thank God for all mothers. Thanks to Mary's "YES," the Savior was born to us.
Mary was chosen by God from among all women. She is like the moon that reflects all the beauty of the sun, which is Jesus. Mary is the Mother of Beautiful Love and is greatly loved by the Christian people and by many non-Christians. She possesses the most refined art of loving: the art of loving like Jesus, because He is Love. Saint Paulina learned from her how to make Jesus known, loved, and adored throughout the world. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, enlightened by the Son of Mary, affirmed: “"In the heart of the Church, I will be love.". And Pope Francis declared: “"Mary, Mother who accompanies us on life's journey, is the one who had the courage to give her life to God's dream.".
In one of the texts left by Father Eustáquio, he says: “In truth, Our Lady is my mother, your mother, our dear mother. Mother of humankind. With the help of this mother, let us meditate on the destiny of humanity, on the end of man. Consider that you are not in the world by chance: some purpose has been set for you. This purpose is the glory of God. We were created to know Him, to love Him, to serve Him.”
May this month of May allow us to turn more to Mary, our Heavenly Mother, and learn from her how to love and serve Jesus in our lives.
