Poetry speaks of Father Eustáquio's passage through Patrocínio/MG

Father Eustáquio left a legacy of love, faith, and devotion wherever he went. Whether in the cities where he served for long periods as a parish priest or vicar, or in the cities where he only spent a short time.

One of these brief stays was in Patrocínio, in the Alto Paranaíba region of Minas Gerais. The Dutch priest arrived in the municipality in October 1941, but left the city in February 1942. Even in such a short period, the Blessed One left a great mark on his parishioners.

These marks can be seen in the beautiful work of the poet Flávio José de Almeida, who wrote several poems inspired by Blessed Father Eustace. Below is one of these poems:

He went in through that door.

In a white cassock, tall and strong,
accompanied by Vicar Willibrordo Meeder,
Father Eustáquio entered through that door.

It was nightfall on that Saturday,
October 11, 1941.

He was tired from the long journey.
That day he arrived in Patrocínio.

Inside the church, which was almost dark,
conducive to the deepest silence of the soul,
He knelt and prayed at the feet of Saint Joseph.,
saint of his devotion and revered
the image of the patron saint,
supported on the main altar.

The first visit was brief.

Then they went to the Gymnasium.
Dom Lustosa, where he would be staying,
And a delicious soup awaited him.,
made especially for him
by master chef Father Caprasio,
then in charge of the cafeteria
from the school.

Along with the other priests, his compatriots,
was able to converse in Dutch,
Everyone was happy to have dinner together.

Eustáquio van Lieshout,
still anonymous among the residents of Patrocínio,
He wore a white habit,
white cord around the waist,
white scapular
and on the chest the scarlet emblem
of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts
of Jesus and Mary.

Even though he was a chaplain
in the church of Saint Lucy,
He entered through that door several other times.,
humbly, hungry for prayers
in the solitude of his fervent spirit
unwavering, inhabitant of the unfathomable
God's silences.

On February 12, 1942, he left for Ibiá.,
and then to Belo Horizonte, where he arrived
on April 7th of that same year,
He stayed there for only sixteen months.,
until the day of his death,
on August 30, 1943.

Patrocínio still feels his presence today.
