In April 1949, 72 years ago, Father Eustáquio was honored by having the neighborhood where he lived the last months of his life named after him.

The parish registers of the Sacred Hearts Parish state that:

“On August 16, 1948, Mr. José Geraldo de Oliveira presented the following project to the City Council: "The area previously known as 'Vila Progresso' shall henceforth be called 'Padre Eustáquio Neighborhood'." This became a reality in April 1949.“

Located in the Northwest region of Belo Horizonte, the neighborhood that today bears the name of the blessed man was formed from the union of several villages: Progresso, Celeste Império, Santa Rita, and Futura. All of them date back to the 1920s.

When he arrived in Belo Horizonte, Father Eustáquio lived in the Celeste Império neighborhood and presided over masses at the Cristo Rei chapel. He stayed in the capital of Minas Gerais for less than two years, but earned great admiration from the faithful.

Because of the Dutch priest's life story and the devotion of the population, not only did the neighborhood take on the name of the Blessed One, but also the most important street in the region, which was formerly called Estrada de Contagem.

The Padre Eustáquio neighborhood currently has approximately 28,000 inhabitants.
