It was on June 15, 2006, that Father Eustáquio was beatified in a Holy Mass celebrated in Belo Horizonte (MG), after the Holy See confirmed that a priest had been cured through the intercession of the Blessed.
The ceremony was performed by Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, sent by Pope Benedict XVI and then Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The proclamation of Father Eustáquio's inscription on the list of the blessed took place at the Mineirão stadium during the 12th "Torcida de Deus" (God's Fan Club) event, which gathered around 80,000 people.
The miracle that solidified the Beatification
Father Gonçalo Belém, from Minas Gerais, was cured of cancer in 1962. He discovered he had a tumor in his larynx and that he would have to undergo surgery, with no guarantee of a cure.

Father Belém participated in the Beatification ceremony in 2006.
Before the surgery, Father Belém went to see the archbishop at the time, D. João Resende Costa, who was with the then auxiliary bishop, D. Serafim Fernandes de Araújo. The two went up to the chapel and prayed for his brother, asking for the intercession of Father Eustáquio, whose beatification/canonization process had just been opened.
On the day of the surgery, Father Belém underwent further tests to determine the area where the tumor should be removed. However, the tests did not detect any sign of the tumor. Father Gonçalo lived to be 83 years old.
